ABOUT: MODALITIES OF CLASSES

OPED/Dance World offers instruction on dancing via various modalities: private lessons, group classes, workshops, retreats, dance cruises. The regime of weekly lessons are offered in various locations regularly, bundled as classes in group of five lessons, affordably priced, distributed by level, taught by a team of at least two instructors, male/female, rotating the roles of leader/follower, using diverse styles of teaching, within outlines that follow a progressive curriculum, that builds up the training in knowledge of the mechanics, the technique, the musicality and the personal expression thru dance. We offer a continuous an integrated system.

The class enrollment is kept low per design, and we have generous make up opportunities and exchange policies between our several locations. The weekly group lessons are focused on the mechanics of leading & following in dancing and on exploring the dynamics of the relationship between rotating and switching dyads and their ability to integrate motion  concepts of torque, momentum, "body motion's force", “non-verbal communications”,
"inter-personal feedback"; "feelings" and "auto-discovery”.

This kind of instructional build up leads to a strong understanding of simple mechanical skills to be learned by the person in the role of leader and to understand and care for the follower as well as by the person in the role of follower to understand and harmoniously execute the role in order to make the dance experience work blissfully with each rotating partner.

The important concepts of these instructionals are non-verbal communication’s clarity, simultaneity and synchronicity in the use of torque within the follower's body and the fine tuning of the process of learning to "listen" and "follow" to each other's momentums. These skills are taught through simple exercises designed to help participants to feel each partner motion energy and to pay attention both as a leader and as a follower.

By learning and practicing the “what”, the “how” and the “when” this kind of dancing could "feel" like, the possibilities open for understanding almost any "move" and making it feel comfortable. This process free participants to make their dance feel and become their own personal expression.

This approach helps individuals to realize connections between themselves and their abilities and styles. It enhances their listening and expressing skills both in the dance as well as in their relationships.

Understanding and mastering these concepts of interpersonal body energy and mechanics and individual personalities develops the necessary skills to use the occasion of each dance and the momentum of each musical rendition to allow both the leader and follower to concentrate on building the excellence of dancing.
