About: Retreats

OPED/Dance World offers instruction on dancing via various modalities: private lessons, group classes, workshops, retreats, dance cruises. The curriculum and the instructional delivery are engineered in a progressive build up of knowledge and skills in dancing, communications, social skills and social networking. We offer a continuous an integrated system.

The
retreats offer opportunities for intense immersion that allows development and or refinement of the fundamentals for dancing, training in the fundamentals for interpersonal communications and explorations into particular techniques of problem solving oriented communications.

The retreat provides good opportunities for beginners and advance dancers, towards their development and refinement of dance skills, communication skills and social/dance connections and to explore inter-personal dynamics of a given situation. These activities are offered at excellent venues, the class enrollment aims at gender parity and classes include rotations to allow socialization and distribution of skills among participants.

The instructors / facilitators believe that dancing is primarily a social experience and is a perfect medium to express individual feelings in consonance with a partner within the metrics of the music, and in harmony within the group we are dancing in. These elements allows skillful facilitators to help participants to draw from each other and from themselves realizations about themselves and when comfortable to share their personal discoveries.

The important concepts of these retreats are clarity of follow/lead non-verbal communications, simultaneity of execution, and synchronicity in the use of torque within the follower's body while learning to “listen" and "follow" to each other's momentums. These skills are taught through simple exercises designed to help participants to feel each partner motion energy and to pay attention both as a leader and as a follower. In this environment dancing is in a "micro-cosmos reality" similar to relationships in real life.

At the retreats we lightly explore correlations of the dynamics between some aspects of our personalities and some ways we approach physical distance and closeness in the relationship that are established for the short duration of each song and in other relationships. These will be done instituting as part of the design an educational approach for interpersonal communication in a non-therapeutic highly supportive and environment.

At the retreats we aim to develop understanding and mastery of these concepts of interpersonal body energy and mechanics and individual personalities develops the necessary skills to use the occasion of each dance and the momentum of each musical rendition to allow both the leader and follower to concentrate on building the excellence of dancing.

The retreats offer additional opportunities for further development and refinement of the fundamentals for dancing and some retreats also offers fundamentals for interpersonal communications.

By learning and practicing what and how this kind of dancing could "feel" like, the possibilities open for understanding almost any "move" and making it feel comfortable. This will also free participants to make their dance feel and become their own personal expression. Also will help individuals to realize connections between themselves and their abilities and styles. It will enhance their listening and expressing skills both in the dance as well as in their relationships.

Because these instructional experiences look and dancing in general from a different perspective it is for all levels (even total beginners). In fact a mixture will help with the learning process of everyone involved.
