ARGENTINEAN DANCES:
TANGO, MILONGA & VALSE
Brief Course's Outline:
Beginners I
Exercises on motion, equilibrium, "tango walk", partner's communication and type of frames. This section of the class teaches the mechanics and techniques for linear patterns of steps: 3 beginnings (salidas), the run (corrida) 3 resolutions (side, tango close, continued basic); "ocho cortado".
Beginners II
Exercises in "pivoting", mechanics and techniques for 4 figures and variations: front eights (ochos); back eights (ochos); sandwich with sweeps, fans, hooks; screw in (circle around ochos) and screw in and/or out resolution "atornille and destornille".
Beginners III
Mechanics and techniques for 4 figures and variations: "half-moon" (media Luna), "moon" (Luna), "bull fighter (toreador), extended "bullfighter" (matador)" with 3 resolutions.
Intermediate I
Traveling basic, simple windmill (molinete), counter windmill (giro), mechanics, techniques & musicality with the steps, figures and sequences within the vocabulary already internalized; and, elements of floor craft for dance space navigation.
Intermediate II
Mechanics, techniques & musicality of windmill with displacements, counter windmill with displacements and of combinations of figures, sequences and routines. Additional signaling techniques.
Intermediate III
Embellishments & refined dance elements that can be used by the dancers to express their individuality (their feelings). Specific techniques for renditions using open embrace, close embrace, pyramidal position; and, techniques for switching between different embraces as the dancers use figures according to their interpretation of the music and their level of ability.
Leader's Techniques The lessons focus on the techniques that the leader needs to provide with clarity to the follower: starts with a model that shows the motions (the what), followed by the technique (the how) continued by the musicality (the when). The class includes training to develop equilibrium, signaling, couple's coordination in the execution of the figures and sequences of the curriculum. The signaling for the figures will be explained as "markings" that indicate patterns of motions.
Mechanics, techniques & musicality of the leads, the within the various structures of the embrace (open, close, pyramidal) for the vocabulary learned in the classes grouped by levels that include: linear, wavelike, zigzag, semi-circular and/or circular or counter circular combining the steps, figures and sequences of the vocabulary already internalized; elements of floor craft for dance space navigation. |
